BAP Program Grows 29 Percent in 2018

It’s official. The industry-leading Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program closed out 2018 on a high note, finishing up the year with 2,287 BAP-certified facilities worldwide. Of the 2,287 BAP-certified facilities, 1,534 are farms, 370 are processing plants, 45 are re-processing plants, 220 are hatcheries and 118 are feed mills. Additionally, there are 245 farms that were previously BAP-certified but are currently in fallow. The 1,500-plus farms represent more than 1.5 million metric tons of production annually. iBAP Welcomes First Greek Facility

IRIDA S.A., a fish feed manufacturer located in Evia, Greece, is currently participating in the iBAP program and is expected to transition to BAP certification soon. First For Australia: BAP-Certified Rainbow Trout Farms

Congratulations to Goulburn River Trout, the first rainbow trout business in Australia and the Eastern Hemisphere to attain Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. Both of the company’s farms, Thornton Farm and Walnut Island Farm, which are located in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range in northeast Victoria, earned BAP certification on Oct. 25. Peruvian Company First To Offer Four-Star BAP Trout

Congratulations to Peruvian Andean Trout S.A.C., the world’s first company qualified to offer four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) trout. The company became eligible to offer four-star BAP trout upon BAP certification of its processing plant in June. Peruvian Andean Trout’s farm and hatchery were also recently BAP certified. Located in the Peruvian Andes, all three facilities graduated from the iBAP program, a precursor to full BAP certification, early this year.
