BAP Program Grows 29 Percent in 2018

Mid-Year Review: Number of BAP-Certified Facilities Up 14.3 Percent

With the first half of 2018 in the books, the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) is pleased to announce that the number of Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-certified facilities is up 14.3 percent this year. At the end of June, there were 2,079 BAP-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills in 34 countries and six continents. That’s up from 1,819 at the end of 2017. Of the 2,079, 1,343 are farms, 411 are processing plants, 212 are hatcheries and 113 are feed mills. BAP Logo Policing Results Show 99% Compliance with Guidelines

For the last six quarters, the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program has used a third-party crowdsourcing firm to perform in-store audits of BAP products in retail stores across the United States, Canada and Mexico as part of its logo policing program. This includes answering specific questions about each product regarding country of origin, BAP certification number and star status. The in-store audit also collects photographs of each product. Public Comment Sought for Expanded Seafood Processing Standards

The Global Seafood Assurances (GSA) Seafood Processing Standards are now available for public comment, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced on May 2. The 60-day public comment period ends on July 1. The GSA Seafood Processing Standards are the first and only seafood-specific processing plants standards for both farmed and wild seafood.
