BAP’s supply chain transparency program

Number of BAP-Certified Facilities Hits 2,155

With the first 10 months of 2018 in the books, the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) is pleased to announce that the number of Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-certified facilities is up 21.2 percent this year. There were 2,155 BAP-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills at the end of October, including 1,451 farms, 372 processing plants, 217 hatcheries and 115 feed mills. That’s up from 1,778 BAP-certified facilities at the end of 2017. The 1,451 farms produce 1.5 million metric tons of seafood annually. BAP Releases Video on Aquaculture and Certification

The Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) program recently released a new video that introduces consumers to aquaculture and the BAP program. The video stems from a partnership with the U.S. Soybean Export Council to increase awareness around responsible aquaculture practices, sustainable feed, and the BAP label. It is available in both English and Spanish. The video provides a brief overview of what aquaculture is and why it’s needed, and features two BAP-certified facilities, Acuicola Gemso Tilapia farm and Vimifos Feed Mill in Mexico. First European Mussel Farm Earns BAP Certification

Offshore Shellfish Ltd., which operates the United Kingdom’s first large-scale, offshore rope-cultured mussel farm, recently obtained Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification, the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) announced in early September. The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) division is holding a BAP Stakeholder Meeting & Luncheon at GAA’s GOAL 2018 conference in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The meeting and luncheon will take place at the opening of GOAL 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25. What BAP-Certified Facilities are Saying About Us

Initial results from a survey conducted by the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) program show the benefits facilities have experienced from becoming BAP certified. Among the most common benefits facilities mentioned are increased sales and access to new markets, improved business practices and increased customer trust. Control Union Peru Is BAP’s Sixth Accredited Certification Body

Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) has added Control Union Peru (CUP) to its team of independent, third-party certification bodies (CBs), making it the sixth CB accredited to audit and certify aquaculture facilities against the BAP standards, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in late July. “We are pleased to have Control Union Peru join our program as an experienced certification body.
