BioMar-Tongwei JV Is First in China to Offer BAP Feed for Trout, Turbot

BioMar Tongwei (Wuxi) Biotech Co. Ltd. is China’s first feed mill producing feed for trout and turbot to earn Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced on Nov. 20. BioMar Tongwei (Wuxi) Biotech Co. Ltd. is a joint venture between Danish feed giant BioMar Group A/S and Chinese feed manufacturer Tongwei Co. Ltd. Public Input Sought on BAP Feed Mill Standard Issue 3.0

The Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Feed Mill Standard Issue 3.0 is now available for public comment, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced on Nov. 21. The 60-day public comment period ends on Jan. 20, 2020. A technical committee led by professor Ron Hardy of the University of Idaho revamped the standard in response to growing demand for sustainable farmed seafood. The requirements for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP)-based feed safety and the ethical treatment of employees have been greatly expanded. Impressive Year as Number of BAP-Certified Facilities Nears 1,800

The number of Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-certified facilities jumped 3.3 percent from October to November but fell just shy of 1,800 through the first 10 months of 2017, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in mid-November. It’s been an impressive year of growth for the BAP third-party certification program, with the number BAP-certified facilities hitting 1,794 through the first 10 months of this year, a 15 percent jump from the end of last year. BMR Seafood Group Sets Sights On Four-Star BAP

BMR Seafood Group has applied its brand new feed mill for Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. If the feed mill attains BAP certification, BMR Seafood would be eligible to offer four-star BAP shrimp, meaning that the company’s processing plant, farm, hatchery and feed mill are all BAP certified, the program’s highest designation. The feed mill is located on the same property as the company’s BAP-certified processing plant in Nellore, India. The feed mill is expected to produce 75,000 metric tons of feed in 2016. Four Stars For Good Luck Products Co. Ltd.

Good Luck Products Co. Ltd. is the latest group to land four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) status for shrimp, with the BAP certification of its feed mill in Thailand. Located in Samut Sakhon province, S. Pat & Peach Feedmill Co. Ltd. just attained BAP certification, a little more than a month after Good Luck’s Somrak shrimp hatchery attained BAP certification. Also BAP certified are Good Luck’s processing plant and four-farm IOM (integrated operating module) and a five-farm IOM, all in Thailand.
