Canada Recognizes Role Of Third-Party Certification Schemes

The Global Aquaculture Alliance commends the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) for enacting a policy fortifying the value of voluntary third-party certification schemes like the Best Aquaculture Practices. The policy enables CFIA to use the outcome of a third-party audit on an aquaculture facility or other food facility to guide its risk-based inspection activities, recognizing voluntary third-party certification schemes as a resource in ensuring public safety. GAA Supports Thailand In Fight Against Labor Abuse

The Global Aquaculture Alliance commends Thailand for taking additional steps to prevent labor abuse in seafood supply chain. Vietnamese Shrimp Farms First To Earn BAP Group Certification

Stapimex is the world’s first shrimp operation, and the second across all species, to successfully complete the new Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) group farm program, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in mid-January. Stapimex (Soc Trang Seafood Joint Stock Company), one of Vietnam’s largest shrimp producers, earned BAP certification for six of its shrimp farm sites located in Vietnam’s Soc Trang province.
