Four-Star BAP Tilapia Is First For Honduras

Congratulations to Aquafinca Saint Peters Fish S.A., Latin America’s second company, and Honduras’ first, qualified to offer four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) tilapia, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in early July.

Part of the Regal Springs Tilapia Group, Aquafinca Saint Peters Fish S.A. became eligible to offer four-star BAP tilapia upon BAP certification of its Borboton Production Center hatchery in June. Already BAP certified were its processing plant, its Production Center Cajon and Production Center Yojoa farms, and the feed mill from with it sources tilapia feed, Aquafeed S.A. DE CV, also in Honduras.

Aquafinca Saint Peters Fish S.A. was Honduras’ first tilapia processing plant to earn BAP certification in late 2012.

Four-star BAP status denotes that a product originates from a BAP-certified processing plant, farm, hatchery and feed mill. It’s the highest achievement in the BAP program.

BAP is the world’s leading third-party aquaculture certification program, with 1,290 BAP-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills as of June 2016. It’s also the world’s most comprehensive third-party aquaculture certification program, with standards encompassing environmental responsibility, social responsibility, food safety, animal health and welfare and traceability.
