BioMar-Tongwei JV Is First in China to Offer BAP Feed for Trout, Turbot

BioMar Tongwei (Wuxi) Biotech Co. Ltd. is China’s first feed mill producing feed for trout and turbot to earn Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced on Nov. 20. BioMar Tongwei (Wuxi) Biotech Co. Ltd. is a joint venture between Danish feed giant BioMar Group A/S and Chinese feed manufacturer Tongwei Co. Ltd. New Edition of Seafood Processing Standard Addresses Outsourcing, Food Safety, Environmental Monitoring, Employee Health and Safety

The latest edition of the Seafood Processing Standard (SPS), which incorporates multiple clarifications and updates since the previous edition, has been released, the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program announced on Nov. 16. SPS Issue 5.1 replaces SPS Issue 5.0, which was released in February 2019, and is mandatory for all facilities pursuing certification or re-certification beginning Jan. 16, 2021. SPS Issue 5.1 provides clarity on the outsourcing of processing, environmental monitoring and food-product testing and on food safety as it pertains to canning, thermal processing and other specialty processing methods. BAP Adds New Resource for Certified Producers

The Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) program is continuing to add value to BAP-certified producers by providing them with new tools and resources. Among those resources are new “splash pages” on the BAP producer page which will provide producers with an opportunity to list additional information about their company in a drop-down tab under their facility name.  This information may include sales contact information, a link to a company’s downloadable certificate, website link and more. This will first be provided as an option to processing plants and will eventually roll out to farms, hatcheries and feed mills.
