BAP Launches Supply Chain Transparency Video Tutorial

The Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program recently launched a video that walks BAP endorsers and suppliers through its supply chain transparency technology. More than 150 retailers, foodservice operators and seafood suppliers worldwide are publicly committed to sourcing seafood responsibly from BAP-certified facilities. As a BAP endorser, companies have access free of charge to BAP’s supply chain transparency technology, which provides them with visibility into their supply chains. BAP Milestone: 2,000th Aquaculture Facility Certified

  The industry-leading Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program has reached a milestone, surpassing the 2,000-facility mark. There are now more than 2,000 BAP-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills in 33 countries and six continents. Administered by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), the BAP program is growing by leaps and bounds, more than doubling in size in the past two years, from about 700 facilities at the end of 2015 to 1,500-plus facilities by the end of 2016 to 1,850 facilities at the end of 2017. The first pet food product to carry the blue Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) label will soon be rolled out at retail, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in early March. MacKnight Food Group’s Smoked Salmon & Sweet Potato Bites are produced at the company’s processing plant in Miami, Florida, USA, which obtained BAP-certification in October 2017 and is capable of producing four-star BAP salmon. BAP Lima Auditor Training Course

Two BAP Auditor Training Courses Added to 2018 Schedule

The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) division in early March announced the addition of two BAP auditor training courses to the 2018 schedule. The first course will be held at GAA’s new headquarters in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, from June 24 to 30, and the second course will be held at the Marriott Courtyard Bali Nusa Dua Resort in Bali, Indonesia, from Oct. 21 to 27. New auditor candidates and existing auditors requiring refresher training are welcome to attend both courses.
