Pacifico Aquaculture First To Offer Four-Star BAP Striped Bass

Striped bass is the latest type of farmed seafood to be represented by the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program. Pacifico Aquaculture’s striped bass hatchery, farm and processing plant in Mexico recently attained BAP certification. As it sources feed from BAP-certified feed mills, the company is the world’s first capable of offering four-star BAP striped bass. Auditor Course to Focus on Group, Cluster Certifications

The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) division is holding a special BAP auditor training course for its group and cluster farm programs. The course will be held at the Lake Union Courtyard Marriott in Seattle, Wash., USA, from Sept. 6 to 7, 2017. The course will be offered to senior auditors who have the experience required to perform group and cluster farm audits. GSSI Benchmark Committee Finds BAP Salmon, Finfish/Crustacean Farm Standards In Alignment, Report In Public Consultation Phase

The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party aquaculture certification program is one step closer to becoming recognized by the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI). The process began in December 2015 when BAP applied for GSSI recognition, step one of a seven-step process to determine whether the BAP Finfish and Crustacean Farm Standards and BAP Salmon Farm Standards are in alignment with all Essential Components of the GSSI Global Benchmark Tool. June 22 Webinar To Highlight Improvements To BAP Auditor Training Course

The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) division is holding an informational webinar on Thursday, June 22, at 10 a.m. EDT. Open to the public, the webinar will highlight improvements to the BAP auditor training course. The next course will be held in Dublin, Ireland, from Oct. 1 to 7, 2017. The course will take place at Croke Park in conjunction with GAA’s GOAL 2017 conference. Multi-Star BAP Tilapia Upgraded To Seafood Watch Good Alternative Rating

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch® program has added two-, three- and four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) tilapia to the list of products from third-party certification programs that it recommends to businesses and consumers, which is equivalent to its yellow Good Alternative rating in the program’s popular seafood-buying guide.
