BAP Welcomes First Cobia Facility To Program

Cobia is the latest type of farmed seafood to be represented in the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification program, with the certification of Open Blue Sea Farm Panama S.A.’s processing plant, farm and hatchery, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in mid-March. Because it attained BAP certification for its processing plant, farm and hatchery simultaneously, Open Blue is already capable of offering three-star BAP cobia, signifying that the product originates from a BAP-certified processing plant, farm, hatchery or feed mill. Number Of BAP-Certified Facilities Tops 1,600

The number of Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills surpassed the 1,600 mark at the end of February, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in early March. The BAP program has more than doubled in size in the past two years, growing from 701 BAP-certified facilities at the end of 2014 to 1,500-plus facilities at the end of last year, demonstrating the industry’s commitment to responsible aquaculture. BAP Biosecurity Area Management Standards

FEDEACUA, Colombia To Pilot Draft Biosecurity Area Management Standard

The Global Aquaculture Alliance and Federación Colombiana De Acuicultores (FEDEACUA) are delighted to announce the Best Aquaculture Practices’ first pilot of the draft BAP Biosecurity Area Management Standards. FEDEACUA, the Colombian federation of aquaculture, has asked that Reservoir Betania tilapia farmers undergo the pilot and implement the draft BAP Biosecurity Area Management Standards. The standard lays out how farmers and other entities within a defined productive aquaculture area can best work together to prevent or mitigate threats from disease.
