BAP Program Grew 47 Percent In 2016

The number of Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-certified facilities jumped 47 percent in 2016, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced on Feb. 6. The third-party aquaculture certification program ended 2016 with 1,559 BAP-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills, up from 1,058 BAP-certified facilities at the end of 2015. The BAP program has more than doubled in size in the past two years, surpassing the 1,500-facility milestone at the end of November, a testament to the industry’s commitment to responsible aquaculture. Shanghai To Host Next BAP Auditor Training Course

The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) division invites new auditor candidates and returning auditors requiring refresher training to attend a BAP auditor training course in Shanghai, China, from April 2 to 8, 2017. The course is also open to industry observers, including government officials, producers and other industry stakeholders who wish to learn more about the BAP certification standards and the auditing process. Nearly 60 Facilities Graduate From iBAP in 2016

The Best Aquaculture Practices’ iBAP program is approaching its two-year anniversary. The iBAP program was launched in January 2015 to provide aquaculture facilities with the opportunity to be recognized by the marketplace as they work to improve their production practices. Facilities that enroll in iBAP agree to a step-by-step, deadline-driven improvement plan and are listed on the BAP website: http://bap.gaalliance.org/find-certified-facilities/ibap-facilities/. Once the plan is executed, the facilities can apply for BAP certification.
