Availability Of Three-, Four-Star BAP Tilapia From China To Increase

Maoming City Maonan Sangao Fine Breeding Base, one of China’s largest tilapia hatcheries, has attained Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. The hatchery’s certification will likely increase the availability of three- and four-star BAP tilapia from China. Groups are capable of offering four-star BAP product if the product originates from BAP-certified hatcheries, feed mills, farms and processing plants. It’s the highest designation in the BAP third-party certification program. Milestone Reached With 1,000th BAP-Certified Facility

The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program has reached a milestone. Twelve years after the first set of BAP standards were introduced, the number of BAP-certified facilities has surpassed 1,000. At the end of November, 1,028 processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills were BAP-certified. That’s up from 701 BAP-certified facilities at the end of 2014. In addition to the 1,028 BAP-certified facilities, 178 facilities have applied for BAP certification and are actively engaged in the BAP certification process. Bidvest Partners With Best Aquaculture Practices

The Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in early December that Bidvest Australia and Bidvest Fresh/Direct Seafoods UK have been added to the growing list of wholesale, retail and foodservice companies worldwide partnering with the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program. BAP Mollusk Farm Standards Available For Public Comment

The Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) mollusk farm standards have been released for a 60-day public comment period, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced on Dec. 7. The new standards will cover all major farmed mollusk species, including mussels, scallops, oysters, clams and abalone, and will replace the existing BAP mussel farm standards. The standards were prepared by the BAP mollusk technical committee, which is chaired by Brian Kingzett. Feed Mill Is First In Indonesia To Earn BAP Certification

Shrimp and finfish companies sourcing from Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-certified hatcheries, farms and processing plants can now source feed from the PT Centralpertiwi Bahari (CP Prima) feed mill in Indonesia and be capable of offering four-star BAP product. The feed mill, owned by PT Central Proteinaprima (CP Prima) and located in Lampung province, recently attained BAP certification. It’s Indonesia’s first feed mill to do so. CP Prima’s shrimp hatchery and one of its farms is also BAP certified.
