Petuna Is World’s First BAP-Certified Multi-Species Hatchery

Petuna Aquaculture Pty. Ltd.’s Atlantic salmon and ocean trout hatchery in East Devonport, Tasmania, has earned Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in mid-September. The company’s Cressy hatchery is the world’s first multi-species hatchery to attain BAP certification. Also BAP certified are Petuna’s Table Head and Liberty Point Atlantic salmon and ocean trout farm sites on Tasmania’s west coast and the Van Diemen Aquaculture Pty. Chile’s Multiexport Foods Eligible To Offer Three-Star BAP

Congratulations to Chile’s Multiexport Foods S.A., which is now eligible to offer three-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) salmon. BAP three-star status denotes that a product originates from a BAP-certified processing plant, farm and feed mill or hatchery. Multiexport’s Puerto Montt processing plant and eight of its farm sites in Chile’s Patagonia region, which earned BAP re-certification last month, are BAP certified. Also BAP certified are all of the feed mills from which Multiexport sources feed. Vitapro Is Peru’s First BAP-Certified Feed Mill

Congratulations to Vitapro S.A., Peru’s first feed mill to attain Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. The shrimp feed mill, which attained BAP certification in September, is located in Trujillo, Peru. Vitapro’s Inbalnor S.A. feed mill in Ecuador attained BAP certification in August. Both produce shrimp and fish feed under the Nicovita brand. Currently, there are 15 BAP-certified feed mills in Central and South America. Shrimp and fish companies sourcing from BAP-certified hatcheries, farms and processing plants can now source feed from the Vitapro facilities and qualify to offer four-star BAP product. GAA’s BAP Division Highlights Program Integrity

The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) division in early September reinforced its commitment to responsible aquaculture with a revision to its website that dedicates separate webpages to program integrity. Within the new webpages are new documents and menu items, the release of which helps explain the lengths to which the third-party certification scheme goes to ensure program integrity. The two documents — “BAP Program Integrity FAQs” and “BAP Multi-Star Integrity Tips for Buyers” — are available for download on the BAP website. Ecuador’s First Feed Mill Earns BAP Certification

Congratulations to GISIS, Ecuador’s first feed mill to attain Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. It’s also South and Central America’s third feed mill, outside of Chile, to earn the distinction. The shrimp and tilapia feed mill is located in Durán, Ecuador. Shrimp and tilapia companies sourcing from BAP-certified hatcheries, farms and processing plants can now source feed from the GISIS facility and qualify to offer four-star BAP product.
